Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking

“Distribution Company Old Kakheti” LTD is the member company of KTW Group, which distributes alcohol products of “Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking” LTD and producta issued under trademark NENA all over Georgia. It also manages online sale of above-mentioned products.   

Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking is related to Antimoz Chkhaidze, who in 19th century, founded one of the best cellars at that time in village Askana, western Georgia. The winemaker became famous for his outstanding wine not only in Georgia, but in other countries as well. The oldest Qvevri, in Antimoz Chkhaidze’s cellar, was dated with 1880. 

based on family traditions, in 2001, Zurab Chkhaidze founded “Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking” and continued the 8000- year history of traditional winemaking.

the main direction of KTW is production of high-quality wine, brandy, traditional Chacha and sparkling wine from unique vine varieties grown in Eastern and Western Georgia. The company owns vineyards in Racha- Lechkhumi, Sagarejo (Manavi, Akhasheni, Vachnadziani), Kvareli (Akhalsopeli, Telavi, Tsinandali) and Kartli (Saguramo).

One of the main responsibilities of the company is to save old Georgian endemic grape varieties that are already forgotten and produce unique wine. “Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking” is the company, which saved and recovered unique grape varieties from Ilia Chavchavadze’s vineyards. And nowadays, produces various types of wine at “Guramishvili’s Marani” using exactly those grape varieties.

The production of “Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking” is exported to Europe, Asia and CIS countries. From 2008 till present the company is leader in the production and sales of brandy. All the wine factories: Patardzeuli, Velistsikhe, Manavi, Saguramo and Keda are ISO 22000 certified.

The company is also actively involved in wine tourism and owns two historical wine cellars- “Guramishvili’s Marani” and “Velistsikhe’s Veranda”. As well as “Akhasheni Wine Resort & Spa“ in Gurjaani, Kakheti region.

“Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking” is the winner of many international or local competitions: “Decanter”, “Vinoterra”, “HKIWSC”, “WinExpo Georgia”, “Sakura 2020”. In 2016 the company was awarded with “Golden Brand” prize.

In 2014, the KTW Group launched an investments in a new direction and built two fruit refinery in western Georgia (Keda and Chokhatauri), which were put into operation in September 2015 under the trademark „Nena“. The above-mentioned enterprises make it possible to supply both local and international markets with the highest quality products according to European standarts.

The products presented under the „Nena“ trademark combines the varieties of compote, jam, nectar and sauces. Among them, the most important products are Tkemali and Ajika. Also the company produces high qualitied Georian natural honey.

„Nena’s“ production does not include antibiotics, pesticides, genetically modified additives and chemical additives that are banned in Georgia and in the European Union.
